PREPPIE PAWS OBEDIENCE TRAINING
Where SIT Happens!!!
'Dog training designed to foster a healthy relationship with your pet that will last a lifetime.'
Whether you desire a service dog, therapy dog, competition dog, or a well-mannered family pet, your dog needs to be trained for that position. Early training and socialization are key to having a well behaved dog. I do private training and group classes. I train your dog for your needs. My main concern is for your pet to fit into your family pack structure and live happily for the remainder of his life. Once that is firmly established, you can venture out into other areas with your dog, such as competitions, animal assisted therapy work, working service dog, etc..
Too many dogs are surrendered to shelters because of bad behavior-behavior which owners often do not realize is very normal FOR A DOG! Owners often bring on bad behaviors in their dogs because of a lack of knowledge. They assume a dog will automatically fit into their lifestyle without any training or shaping. Love alone will not train your dog. What owners often forget is that they are taking a DOG and expecting it to fit into a HUMANS lifestyle without any training. You have to mold your dog into your family. Molding comes from training.
It is OUR responsibility as dog owners, to teach the dog what we expect as far as appropriate behavior is concerned. That is why I teach the owners how to train their dogs. This way a communication is developed. A communication which will service the two for the remainder of their lives. My hope is that each client will develope the close relationship with their dog that I have with my dogs, thereby enriching their lives and the lives of others. Robins Therapy Dogs evolved in this same manner. It is the volunteer part of my business. in which I share the bond I have with my dogs, in dog assisted therapy, with others in need. Preppie Paws LLC is the business end of the it all. That is my training academy. This is where SIT HAPPENS!
I also train you and your dog together in order for you to have a Diabetic Alert Dog service dog. DAD's have saved their owners lives. Unstable glucose levels can lead to coma and death especially if the diabetic is asleep. I train your dog to detect the oncoming of a 'low' before it drops to the dangerous level, then to alert to that low so that the diabetic can test their blood and make the necessary corrections. I will be offering Diabetic Alert Dog classes in the near future. Please contact me for more information regarding this class. Until that time I am still offering my private DAD training in your home.
Never a cookie cutter class! Each class is tailored to the specific needs of those enrolled and the inclusion of the basic formats of the class they are entered.
For a private lesson, I cater my work plan around your specific needs and issues.
I also teach group classes for basic and advanced obedience, rally obedience for the competition ring (novice, advanced, and excellent), train and test for the AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) and AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, therapy dog training/testing, and diabetic alert dog training. I am a professional member in good standing with the International Association of Canine Professionals, a member and Tester/Observer with Therapy Dogs Inc., an AKC CGC and S.T.A.R. Puppy evaluator,a member of the US Service Dog Registry, a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, a member of Missouri Rhineland Kennel club, and proprietor of

Most of my classes are held outdoors. That is my preference. I like to teach in a real world setting exposing your dog to the same distractions he will face when you graduate the class. We've all heard of the 'book smart' student who had no street smarts, right? Well, I provide the book smarts and the street smarts all in one.
We often take a 'field trip' as a class to further enrich our learning experience. It is not mandatory if you do not wish to participate.
Preppie Paws Puppy Class
This is an introductory class I recommend for all puppies. It is based on the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy format. Socialization, Training, Activities, and Responsibilities and the focus. Your puppy will learn that it is ok to be around other dogs and people without feeling threatened or threatening. There are weekly lessons to work on and you must attend all 6 classes or make arrangements in order to graduate. Upon completion, you will be tested according to the AKC S.T.A.R. recommendations for which you can then mail your form into AKC for a certificate and you and your puppy will be entered in the AKC book of records for having completed the class. It's a nice way to sequay into basic obedience where you will prepare for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. You must have proof of current vaccinations in order to take this class. Open to all breeds including mixed breeds. This is the starting point for your training.
Learn operant conditioning using voice markers and pawsitive reinforcements in order to teach your dog how to sit/down/heel/stay/and come when called. Learn and use hand signals. There may be some off lead training if you progress to that point. Some behavioral modifications may be involved.
This is the foundation class for which all others will follow. Like anything that is built, you must start with a strong foundation. As you continue to build and grow, this strong foundation will support all future work.
I will teach you the commands for the tangible acts of obedience but I will also be teaching you the psychology of dog training and co-existing with a member of a different species.
Upon completion of this class, I will offer the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and/or the Therapy Dogs Inc. test to those who wish to take it. (Please note that classes are not required to take the Therapy Dogs Inc. test. This is a national therapy dog organization for which I am a tester/observer and merely the time I am offering it).
Take your training one step further. Refine those basic commands and begin to understand your dogs psychological makeup. Learn WHY he does the things he does and teach him using his natural instincts. Teach your dog to back up, to target with his nose and paw, give commands using only hand signals, out of sight seperation, and more. One session will be devoted to the concern of how your dog reacts to the UPS/FEDEX driver, why he reacts the way he does, and what you can do to prevent this behavior.
This class may have a strong disposition leaning toward rally competition and/or therapy dog work. We will teach your dog his 'place' command. Extra equipment will need to be purchased.
Upon completion of this class, I will offer the AKC Canine Good Citizen test and/or the Therapy Dogs, Inc. test to those who wish to take it. (Please note that classes are not required to take the Therapy Dogs Inc. test. This is a national therapy dog organization for which I am a tester/observer and merely the time I am offering it). There is also no fee for Therapy Dogs, Inc. tests.

Therapy Dog Training
This is the class I love to teach the most, next to basic obedience. This class prepares you and your dog for one of the most rewarding volunteer positions known to mankind and canine alike. You will definetly be exposed to medical equipment of all kinds including the sights, sounds, and smells that go with them. Much stricter training regimen but the most rewarding. Not all dogs will pass this, but most will and it is my goal that each and every one of you who want this will pass it. These must be calm dogs who enjoy being petted and will tolerate an occassional accidental ear pull from a clumsy or young hand. I stress your dog's and patient's safety first and foremost. In my opinion, this is one of the best 'jobs' your dog can have. Basic Obedience is a prerequisite. You must also have a negative fecal exam by your vet which has been performed within the last year, and a copy of current vaccinations, prior to starting the class.
__________________________________________________________________________________ Rally O
The American Kennel Club describes Rally Obedience as follows:
"What is Rally? AKC Rally® is a companion sport to AKC Obedience. Both require teamwork between dog and handler along with similar performance skills. Rally provides an excellent introduction to AKC Companion Events for new dogs and handlers and can provide a challenging opportunity for competitors in other events to strengthen their skills. The dog and handler team move at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition. A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Communication from the handler to the dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, but there should be a sense of teamwork and enthusiasm as they go through the course." This is an introductory class I recommend for all puppies. It is based on the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy format. Socialization, Training, Activities, and Responsibilities and the focus. Your puppy will learn that it is ok to be around other dogs and people without feeling threatened or threatening. It's a nice way to sequay into basic obedience where you will prepare for the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

Coming Soon! * Diabetic Alert Dog Group Classes
With regard to all classes-all fees are non-refundable. Only one dog per handler per class. I do encourage husband/wife teams to take the class together so that each person will have consistent handling of the dog. If you have 2 dogs in the family, I recommend both dogs take the class with separate handlers.
In the event a class is cancelled due to inclement weather or any such emergencies, the missed class will be made up at a later date which is convenient to the instructor and facility. Contact me at 314-393-4721 or email@example.com
